KB4089718 - Improvement: Performance issue when upgrading MDS from SQL Server 2012 to 2016

Symptoms

Assume that you upgrade Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Master Data Services (MDS) to SQL Server 2016 MDS. In this scenario, you may notice that a performance issue occurs because it takes a long time to upgrade.

Resolution

This improvement is included in the following updates for SQL Server:

SQL Server 2017

Cumulative Update 7 for SQL Server 2017

Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and security fixes that were included in the previous cumulative update. Check out the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server 2017.

SQL Server 2016

Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 2

Each new build for SQL Server 2016 contains all the hotfixes and security fixes that were in the previous build. We recommend that you install the latest build for SQL Server 2016.

Service Pack 2 for SQL Server 2016

Service packs are cumulative. Each new service pack contains all the fixes that are in previous service packs, together with any new fixes. Our recommendation is to apply the latest service pack and the latest cumulative update for that service pack. You do not have to install a previous service pack before you install the latest service pack. Use Table 1 in the following article for finding more information about the latest service pack and latest cumulative update.
