When you attempt to open or save a domain-based Distributed File System (DFS) share, you may experience the following problems:
CAUSE
This problem can occur if you do not use the fully-qualified DNS name for the Windows 2000 Active Directory in either the Open or Save As dialog box.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use the fully-qualified DNS name of the server
hosting the DFS share, for example:
\\servername.domainname.com\dfsroot\share STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This issue has been addressed by a hotfix.

Also, this issue also occurs in Office XP and a hotfix is being developed for that version.
