OLEXP: IPF in Module Msconv97.dll or <Unknown> Pasting from TechNet CD-ROM

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to copy an article from a Microsoft TechNet CD-ROM and paste it into to a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) mail message, you may receive either of the following error messages:
MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module MSCONV97.DLL at <address>.
- or -
MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown> at <address>.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:

Method 1

  1. Copy and paste the article text into a Notepad document.
  2. Copy the article text from the Notepad document and then paste it into the HTML mail message.

Method 2

Copy and paste the article text into a plain-text mail message. To change the message format to plain text, follow these steps in Outlook Express:

  1. On the Compose menu, click New Message.
  2. On the Format menu, click Plain Text.
  3. Click Yes when you are prompted to change the message format from HTML to plain text.
NOTE: These steps change the format only of the current message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook Express 4.0 and 4.01.
