NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate" if you have the Corporate Workgroup installation.

Microsoft provides a service for use with Outlook 2000 that allows you to access directory servers using the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). LDAP is a directory service implementation that allows fast search access to user information using the X.500 directory.

Adding and Configuring the Microsoft LDAP Directory Service



To add the Corporate LDAP service to a profile, follow these steps:

  1. Start Outlook if it is not currently running.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Services.
  3. Click Add, select Microsoft LDAP Directory, and then click OK.
  4. Type information for the Directory service you will be using. This information is supplied by the service provider. NOTE: You should not change the Port and Search Base unless instructed to do so by your system administrator or service provider.
To access multiple LDAP providers, follow the previous steps to add a service for each provider to the profile.

Searching Using the LDAP Service



The LDAP search is implemented through the Address Book. To search for an address, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Address Book.
  2. Click Show Names From and select the LDAP service you want to use.
  3. On the Tools menu in Address Book, click Find and type the search string. Click OK to start the search.
