SYMPTOMS

The Unplug or Eject Hardware icon may appear on the right side of the taskbar when you install a Universal Serial Bus (USB) device.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if any of the following conditions exist:
  • You are trying to plug in multiple USB devices at the same time.
  • You are installing the USB device for the first time.
  • You are connecting the USB device to a new port on the root hub, a USB hub, or USB repeater.
  • You are installing a USB device that requires a driver from the manufacturer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, do not try to install multiple USB devices simultaneously.

NOTE: Do not use the Unplug or Eject Hardware tool while installing your USB device. The icon on the right side of the taskbar appears for a brief time while Windows configures the USB device or devices, and then disappears after the device installation.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
