SYMPTOMS

If you hold the SHIFT key and click Delete to delete a Hotmail message in Outlook, you receive the following prompt:
Are you sure that you want to permanently delete the selected item(s)?
If you click Yes, the message is not permanently deleted, but is moved to your Deleted Items folder.

MORE INFORMATION

The Hotmail service is designed to move items to the Deleted Items folder when they are deleted, and to automatically purge the Deleted Items folder periodically. Because the Hotmail system does not support the permanent deleting of a message without first sending it to the Deleted Items folder, Outlook is not able to carry out your request to permanently delete the message.
