Article ID: 292851 - Last Review: January 31, 2007 - Revision: 1.2 Error message occurs when the network connection is lost in Outlook 2002 and in Outlook 2003: "The page cannot be displayed"This article was previously published under Q292851 SYMPTOMS
When you configure Microsoft Outlook 2002 or Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 to use an HTTP (Hotmail) account and a personal folders (.pst) file and the network cable is unplugged, the folder homepage displays the following message if you switch between the personal folders (.pst) file and the Hotmail Inbox:
The page cannot be displayed.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the network connection is considered a persistent connection and it is not designed to be disconnected, as a general rule, so the folders and contents are not cached locally. When the HTTP Service uses a dial-up connection, this behavior does not occur because it is considered a non-persistent connection and caches the folders locally.
