Windows File Protection Does Not Protect Cluster-Specific Files

SYMPTOMS

Cluster-specific files are not protected by Windows File Protection (WFP).

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Sfcfiles.dll, which is the file that keeps the location of protected files, has references for cluster-specific files as being in the C:\Winnt\System32\Cluster directory. That location is incorrect.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.

This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
