Windows Services for UNIX 2.0 Setup Does Not Work on Windows XP

SYMPTOMS

When you install Windows Services for UNIX 2.0 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP, you may receive one or more of the following error messages:
Windows Services for UNIX Installer Information Error 26156. Installation of Telnet Client failed.

Windows Services for UNIX installer Information Error 26149. Installation of Telnet Server failed.

Services for UNIX installation: Fatal Error
Installation ended prematurely because of an error.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Windows XP Telnet client and Telnet server are newer versions than the Telnet client and server that are included with Windows Services for UNIX 2.0.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, do not install the Windows Services for UNIX 2.0 Telnet client or Telnet server on Windows XP.

MORE INFORMATION

Because the Windows XP Telnet client and Telnet server are later versions than the Windows Services for UNIX 2.0 Telnet client and Telnet server, Windows Services for UNIX 2.0 Setup stops working during the installation of the Telnet client and/or Telnet server. Because of this, the entire installation stops and rolls back.
