SYMPTOMS

When you use an Earthlink dial-up networking connection to send mail through another Internet service provider (ISP) or e-mail account, you may receive the following error message:
Error 0x800ccc0e. Cannot connect to Server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, replace the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server for the other ISP or e-mail account with the Earthlink SMTP server (mail.earthlink.net). To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Outlook Express.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
  3. Click the Mail tab.
  4. Select the other ISP or e-mail account.
  5. Click Properties.
  6. Click the Servers tab.
  7. Change the server information for Outgoing mail (SMTP) to mail.earthlink.net.
  8. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  9. Click Close in the Internet Accounts dialog box.
