OL2002: Direct Booking Accepts Appointments Even If the Availability Cannot Be Confirmed

SYMPTOMS

If a resource account has been set up for direct booking, you can schedule a meeting with the resource beyond the published free/busy time.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the time that is beyond the published free/busy time is not secured against scheduling.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

After you apply the fix, you must add registry keys to the registry to activate the fix. Follow these steps to add the registry keys.

  1. Start Registry Editor.
  2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\office\10.0\outlook\Appointment
    NOTE: If the Appointment key is not present, you must create the Appointment key.

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. Change this DWORD value to the following data:
    Value name: NoAllowDirectBookBeyondFBRange
    Value data: 1 to turn on the fix; 0 to turn off
  4. Quit Registry Editor.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
