Error Message When You Upgrade to Windows XP: Migisol Caused an Error in KERNEL32.DLL

When you attempt to upgrade to Windows XP from Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), you may receive an error message similar to either of the following:

This behavior can occur if software that is installed on your computer is incompatible with Windows XP.

NOTE: This Windows XP incompatibility issue has been reported to occur with a version of the GoBack program from Roxio.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. Cancel Windows Setup, and then restart your computer to the earlier operating system.
2. Uninstall the incompatible program. For more information about how to do this, refer to the program documentation or contact the software manufacturer.NOTE: You may want to contact your software vendor to inquire about a version of the program that is compatible with Windows XP.
   
   
3. Remove any antivirus software that is installed on your computer. For more information about how to do this, refer to the program documentation or contact the software manufacturer.
4. Clean-boot your computer by starting Windows without loading extra drivers and programs. 5. After you clean-boot your computer, rerun Windows Setup to install Windows XP.NOTE: After installation is complete, reinstall your antivirus software if it is compatible with Windows XP. You may need to contact the software manufacturer to determine whether the software is compatible with Windows XP or to obtain a version of the software that is compatible with Windows XP.
