An HTTPS Web page does not download completely in Internet Explorer 5.5

SYMPTOMS

When you try to connect to an HTTPS Web site in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, the Web page may not completely download.

This problem may occur after you install Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (MS04-004) that is also included in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 2 (SP2), and the following conditions are true:

You have selected the Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections check box on the Advanced tab. (To locate this tab, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.)
You use a proxy server that uses NTLM authentication.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install security update 867801 (MS04-025). For additional information about security update 867801, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Note Because of file dependencies, this hotfix requires Internet Explorer 5 Service Pack 2.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not use the Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections setting. To view or change this setting, click Internet Options on the Tools menu, click the Advanced tab, and then scroll to the HTTP 1.1 settings section.
