Article ID: 904335 - Last Review: August 1, 2005 - Revision: 1.2 You experience slow keyboard performance or slow screen update performance when you modify a table in a Word 2004 for Mac documentSYMPTOMSWhen you type, change, delete, or copy and paste text within a table in a Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac document, you experience slow keyboard performance or slow screen update performance. CAUSEThis problem occurs when the Word 2004 document is located in a shared folder on a server. Whenever you modify the contents of a table, Word 2004 resizes the table to automatically fit the new changes. Additionally, the whole table is read into the Word 2004 page cache. By default, the page cache is 64 kilobytes (KB). If the table is larger than 64 KB, the cache will fill and empty several times while the table is being processed. The processing causes Word 2004 to experience slow performance. WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, you can change the default page cache size for Word 2004. To do this, follow these steps.
Note Following these steps will only reduce the occurrence of this problem. Word 2004 will still have slow performance, but not at the level that Word 2004 was previously experiencing before you used this workaround.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
