System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 Maintenance mode does not stop cluster group failback

SYMPTOMS

You put a failover cluster node into Maintenance mode by using the console in Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2. Then when you restart the node, you find that the groups fail back to the host node.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Failback policy for the group is set to Allow Failback.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, disable the Allow Failback option while the failover cluster node is in Maintenance mode.

Note This applies to System Center Virtual Machine Manager Maintenance mode and not Cluster Maintenance.
