Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install SQL Server 2008 R2 Master Data Services (MDS) on a computer.

  • You create a table named "tblSystem" in some databases. These databases are located in the same instance of SQL Server that is used for MDS databases.

  • You try to create an MDS database by using the Master Data Services Configuration Manager.

In this scenario, you receive the following Microsoft.MasterDataServices.Configuration.ConfigurationException exception, and the database is not created:

Microsoft.MasterDataServices.Configuration.ConfigurationException: Invalid column name 'ProductName'. Invalid column name 'ProductVersion'. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid column name 'ProductName'. Invalid column name 'ProductVersion'. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader.ConsumeMetaData() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader.get_MetaData() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.FinishExecuteReader(SqlDataReader ds, RunBehavior runBehavior, String resetOptionsString) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReaderTds(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method, DbAsyncResult result) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteScalar() at Microsoft.MasterDataServices.Configuration.DatabaseUtilities.IsMasterDataServicesDatabase(SqlConnection connection, String databaseName) at System.Linq.Enumerable.WhereEnumerableIterator`1.MoveNext() at System.Collections.Generic.List`1..ctor(IEnumerable`1 collection) at System.Linq.Enumerable.ToList[TSource](IEnumerable`1 source) at Microsoft.MasterDataServices.Configuration.DatabaseUtilities.GetDatabases(DatabaseServerInformation server) at Microsoft.MasterDataServices.Configuration.Commands.NewMasterDataServicesDatabase.InternalProcessRecord() at Microsoft.MasterDataServices.Configuration.Commands.ConfigurationCmdlet.ProcessRecord() at System.Management.Automation.CommandProcessor.ProcessRecord() --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at Microsoft.MasterDataServices.Configuration.InstanceManager.Execute(Command command) at Microsoft.MasterDataServices.Configuration.InstanceManager.CreateMasterDataServicesDatabase(DatabaseServerInformation serverInformation, DatabaseInformation databaseInformation) at Microsoft.MasterDataServices.Configuration.UI.MdsDatabase.CreateNewDatabase()
