Applies To
Exchange Server 2010 Enterprise Exchange Server 2010 Standard

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You run the New-MoveRequest cmdlet to move a mailbox from a remote legacy Exchange forest to an Exchange Server 2010 forest.

  • The remote source forest is named as a child domain of the target forest. For example, the remote source forest name is child.domain.com and the target forest name is domain.com.

In this scenario, the operation fails and you receive the following error message:

Service 'net.tcp://servername.domain.com/Microsoft.Exchange.MailboxReplicationService' encountered an exception. Error: Cannot find a recipient that has mailbox GUID Mailbox GUID. + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (0:Int32) [New-MoveRequest], MailboxReplicationPermanentException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : ID,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.RecipientTasks.NewMoveRequest

Cause

This issue occurs because the Active Directory driver looks for the mailbox in an incorrect forest when the Mailbox Replication service creates Active Directory queries during the cross-forest mailbox move. The Active Directory driver validation fails that causes the move operation failure.
