Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You run a Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) query against a cube in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services (SSAS 2012).

  • The MDX query has a sub-select clause that refers to some calculated measures.

In this scenario, you may receive the following error message:

The operation has been cancelled because there is not enough memory available for the application. If using a 32-bit version of the product, consider upgrading to the 64-bit version or increasing the amount of memory available on the machine.

Hotfix information

After you apply this hotfix, this issue can be resolved only when the sub-select clause refers to a Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) calculated measure. If it refers to a MDX measure, this issue still occurs. A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix. Note If additional issues occur or if any troubleshooting is required, you might have to create a separate service request. To apply this hotfix, you must have the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) installed.
