Applies ToExchange Server 2010 Enterprise Exchange Server 2010 Standard

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You create a global address list (GAL)-related client-only message rule by using Microsoft Outlook in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment.

  • You experience the issue that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 2543850. When this issue occurs, the client-only message rule is not applied.

  • To resolve the issue, you apply Update Rollup 1 (RU1) for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2) on the Exchange servers in the environment.

In this scenario, the client-only message rule is still not applied. For example, assume that you create a client-only message rule that moves email messages to a specific folder if the sender is not listed in a GAL address book. However, the email messages are still moved when the sender is listed in a GAL address book.

Cause

This issue occurs because the fix that is described in KB 2543850 adds a TrueFilter function to LDAP queries that filter a certain property. However, the TrueFilter function that is added to the final LDAP query is invalid. Therefore, an ADFilterException exception is thrown.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
