Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

In this scenario, the Host Integration Server may log the following event message when it tries to start the APPC or CPI-C application:

Cause

This problem occurs when the APPC or CPI-C application receives data from the calling transaction program. And, the data is segmented so that the first byte of the Application Data General Data Stream (GDS) variable is included at the end of the previous block of data that is received from the IBM host system. In this case, the APPC DLL (Wappc32.dll) does not correctly parse the received data when an Application Data GDS variable is split across two message segments in this manner. The APPC protocol violation error is returned to the calling transaction program on the IBM host when this problem occurs.
