Symptoms

Assume that you have applied Cumulative Update 7 (CU7) or later versions for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 (SP2). When you perform a Process Update operation on a dimension in SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), the Memory Usage KB and Cleaner Memory non-shrinkable KB counters keep increasing and not being released. In this situation, memory leak occurs.

Cause

The issue occurs because there is a regression in SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 CU7 which causes memory leak in Process Update.
