Symptoms

The Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager Setup Wizard fails when you try to restore a database on a site that has Microsoft SQL Server 2014 installed. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

The SQL Server MYSQLSERVER.mydomain.com is not accessible or its version not supported.

Note This message is also logged in the Configuration Manager Setup log.

This issue also occurs when you use System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1 (SP1). 

Resolution

To resolve this problem, apply this hotfix. This hotfix provides updated versions of the setup files and enables new installations of the System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager site database role and the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP1 site database role in Microsoft SQL Server 2014. Refer to the installation instructions for detailed information about how to build an update installation folder. 

Note The hotfix that is described in this article also applies to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 4 (SP4) and SQL Server 2014 SP1.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Installation instructions

  1. Create a copy of the System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager installation media.

  2. Run the self-extracting hotfix executable to extract the Prereqcore.dll and Setupcore.dll files.

  3. Replace both of the .dll files in the installation folder by using those from this hotfix.

  4. Start the installation or restore process by using the Setup.exe file from the following copied installation folder:

    \SMSSETUP\BIN\X64\Setup.exe

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for applying this hotfix.

Restart information

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Note We recommend that you close Configuration Manager Administration Console before you apply this hotfix package.

This hotfix does not replace any previously released hotfix.
