Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You use Microsoft SQL Server 2014 or 2012 Master Data Services (MDS) in an Active Directory domain.

  • An MDS administrator browses to the MDS website, and adds an Active Directory group or user to User and Group Permissions.

  • The group or user account that is added has the same name with a computer account within the Active Directory domain.

In this scenario, when the user tries to access the MDS website, an access denied error occurs.

Resolution

Cumulative Update information

This issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server.


Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. Check out the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:


Workaround

To work around this issue, change the computer name or user account name so that they are not identical.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
