Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release.
INTRODUCTION
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Cumulative Update 2 (CU2), SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Cumulative Update 7 (CU7), and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 (SP3) Cumulative Update 9 (CU9) introduce trace flag 4136, which can be used to control the "parameter sniffing" process. More information about parameter sniffing can be found in the following blog post:Â http://blogs.msdn.com/b/queryoptteam/archive/2006/03/31/565991.aspx.Enabling trace flag 4136 disables parameter sniffing, which is equivalent to adding an OPTIMIZE FOR UNKNOWN hint to each query which references a parameter. Queries that meet any of the following conditions still undergo parameter sniffing even if the trace flag is set.
-
The parameter is specified by using the "optimize for (@p = <value>)" query hint.
-
The query uses the "option(recompile)" query hint.
-
The query is a part of a stored procedure that uses the "with recompile" option.
