Symptoms

When you use the WCF-SAP adapter to try to establish a Remote Function Call (RFC) connection to the SAP destination that's specified in the saprfc.ini file, the connection might fail. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

There was a exception problem. : Microsoft.ServiceModel.Channels.Common.ConnectionException: Access to the path 'ApplicationData\' is denied. ---> System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'ApplicationData\' is denied.
at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)

Cause

This issue might occur if the RFC_INI environment variable isn't set or is set to an empty value.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Resolution

This problem is fixed in the following cumulative update for BizTalk Server:
