Introduction

An update is available that changes the currency symbol of Latvia from the Latvian lats (Ls) to the euro (€) in Windows. Note Latvia adopts the euro on January 1, 2014.This update applies to the following operating systems:

  • Windows 8

  • Windows Server 2012

  • Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

  • Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2)

How to manually change the currency symbol for Latvia

To manually change the currency symbol for Latvia, follow these steps.

Windows RT, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2012

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.

  2. In the Search box, type Change the date, time, or number format, and then tap or click Change the date, time, or number format in the Settings list.Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

  3. In the Region dialog box, click Additional settings on the Formats tab.

  4. Click the Currency tab, and then change Currency symbol from Ls to €.Note If you have applied the update that is described in the "Resolution" section, and you want to change the currency symbol to the earlier version, click the Currency tab, select in the Currency symbol list, and then type Ls.

  5. Click OK two times to apply the change.

After you make this change, the new currency symbol is displayed as your system currency in all Windows and Microsoft Office products.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2
