Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
-
You use the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 IDE to open an ASP.NET webpage.
-
The webpage contains either templated controls or controls that have editable regions. For example, the webpage contains some of the following controls:
-
asp:FormView
-
asp:Panel
-
asp:Wizard
-
asp:WebpartZone
-
asp:GridView
-
asp:View
-
-
The source markup for these controls contains much content. For example, the source markup for these controls contains hundreds of child controls.
-
You try to switch to Design View.
In this scenario, the IDE crashes and a “Stack Overflow” exception is thrown. Additionally, you may receive an event log entry that resembles the following:
Log Name: Application
Source: Application Error Event ID: 1000 Task Category: (100) Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Description: Faulting application name: devenv.exe, version: 10.0.30319.1, time stamp: stamp 1 Faulting module name: fpeditax.dll, version: 10.0.30319.1, time stamp: stamp 2 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x0002f307 Faulting process id: Process ID Faulting application start time: Start Time Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\Packages\fpeditax.dll Report Id: Report IDResolution
