Article ID: 2306162 - Last Review: December 20, 2010 - Revision: 3.0 FIX: Poor performance and some occasional non-yielding scheduler errors occur when you create a complex view that references a large amount of nested views or tables in SQL Server 2008 or in SQL Server 2008 R2
Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release. On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you create a complex view in SQL Server 2008 or in SQL Server 2008 R2, poor performance and some occasional non-yielding scheduler errors occur. This issue usually occurs when the CREATE VIEW statement references a large amount of nested views or tables. For example, a SELECT statement of the CREATE VIEW statement uses up to 400 tables or more at a time, and selects 87 columns from each of those tables. CAUSEThis issue occurs because the SQL Server code base performs string comparison directly by the object names. When the complex module Data Definition language (DDL) statement runs, SQL Server has to build a dependency list of the objects involved. However, the SQL Server code base performs string comparisons directly for the object names. Therefore, CPU starvation occurs for the other worker threads that run on the same scheduler, and a non-yielding scheduler error occurs. RESOLUTIONCumulative update informationSQL Server 2008 R2The fix for this issue was first released in Cumulative Update 5.
