Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a CD-RW drive installed on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • You format a CD-RW disc in mastered format.

  • You repeatedly add new files and then burn the files to the disc. For example, you add and burn new files to the disc during four sessions.

  • After the fourth burn session is finished, you remove and then reinsert the disc.

In this scenario when you view the disc in Windows Explorer, you see only the files that were added and burned during the first burn session. All other files are missing.

Cause

This problem occurs because of a problem in an IMAPI module that issues a read to a sector that is out of the usual data area on the CD-RW disc. If the drive returns an error during that read, this problem occurs.

Resolution

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file information notes

Important Windows 7 hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 R2 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, hotfixes on the Hotfix Request page are listed under both operating systems. To request the hotfix package that applies to one or both operating systems, select the hotfix that is listed under "Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2" on the page.
