Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 PowerPivot for SharePoint in a Microsoft SharePoint farm. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services (SSAS) is installed in the SharePoint Integration mode.

  • You deploy a PowerPivot service application in the farm.

  • You upload a PowerPivot workbook that contains an embedded Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services (SSAS) database to the SharePoint farm.

  • You load the PowerPivot workbook on the SharePoint site. This action loads the embedded database of the workbook to a PowerPivot SSAS instance.

  • You connect to the PowerPivot SSAS instance by using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).

In this scenario, you receive an error message that resembles the following when you try to delete the embedded database:

The following system error occurred: Type mismatch. PowerPivot database error: Cannot convert value '<Value>' of type string to type integer. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices)

Note When this issue occurs, the same PowerPivot workbook has multiple databases on the SSAS server. Therefore, the performance of the SSAS server may decrease.
