Symptoms

After you add seven or more BizTalk hosts to a BizTalk group in Microsoft BizTalk Server 2010, the Monitor BizTalk Server SQL Server Agent job does not run at the Check issues in all MessageBoxes and DTA step. Additionally, an error message that resembles the following is logged in the job history:

Date Date timeLog Job History (Monitor BizTalk Server (BizTalkMgmtDb))Step ID 1Server Server nameJob Name Monitor BizTalk Server (BizTalkMgmtDb)Step Name Check issues in all MessageBoxes and DTADuration 00:00:02Sql Severity 15Sql Message ID 102Operator Emailed Operator Net sent Operator Paged Retries Attempted 0MessageExecuted as user: user. Unclosed quotation mark after the character string 'u'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 105) Incorrect syntax near 'u'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 102). The step failed.

Note The number of hosts that are required to encounter this issue varies, depending on the length of the host names. If each host name is one character long, this issue occurs when you add nine or more hosts to a BizTalk group.

Cause

This issue occurs because the maximum character length of a variable that is used in the Monitor BizTalk Server SQL Server Agent job is small. When many hosts exist in a BizTalk group, the character length of this variable exceeds the maximum character length.
