SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You enable IPv4 and IPv6 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2).
  • You configure a static IP address for IPV4 on a network adapter on the computer.
  • You restart the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Client service on the computer.
In this scenario, the host record of the static IP address is removed from the Domain Name System (DNS) server.

Note This issue also occurs when a static IP address for IPV6 is configured on the computer.

CAUSE

The issue occurs because the DHCP Client service incorrectly unregisters the static IP address when the DHCP Client service stops.
