Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You run the New-MailboxSearch cmdlet to create a mailbox search in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) environment. Both the IncludeUnsearchableItems property, and the ExcludeDuplicateMessages property are set to true.

  • The mailbox has the same unsearchable items that are located in different folders.

  • You run the Get-MailboxSearch cmdlet to view the mailbox search.

In this scenario, the search status displays as PartiallySucceeded. Additionally, you receive the following error message at the command prompt:

{An error occurred when searching <search name>. The message is 'The items could not be copied.'.}

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

2579150 Description of Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Workaround

To work around this issue, do not set the IncludeUnsearchableItems property to true when you run the New-MailboxSearch cmdlet.
