When you try to delete a long URL from the browsing history of Windows Internet Explorer on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, the operation is unsuccessful.

This issue occurs because Windows Search does not guarantee that URLs that are longer than 425 characters will be deleted.

To resolve this issue, apply the following update.

After you apply this update, Windows indexes the file system. This is a one-time operation that may take some time.
