Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You run the data collector of Management Data Warehouse (MDW) in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 on a multiprocessor computer.

  • You host a MDW database in SQL Server 2008 or in SQL Server 2008 R2 on another computer.

  • You run upload jobs of the data collector. These jobs upload data from the local cache of the data collector to the MDW database.

In this scenario, the underlying SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) jobs might quickly open and close a large number of TCP/IP ports on the multiprocessor computer. However, the TCP/IP ports are still in the TIME_WAIT state after they are closed. Therefore, TCP/IP connectivity on the multiprocessor computer is affected.
