Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You create a task sequence on a Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) site server. The task sequence deploys an operating system image to a client.

  • You configure a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server on the same network to use DHCP option 43.

Note DHCP option 43 is required for Microsoft vendor-specific options. By using DHCP option 43, a client can select which environment to start.

  • You select a ConfigMgr server from the boot server list in the menu of the Pre-Boot Execution Environment (PXE) startup.

In this scenario, you do not obtain the boot image. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

PXE-E78: Could not locate boot server.

Resolution

The following hotfix package resolves this issue on site servers. To resolve this issue, you have to run the hotfix package on the primary site servers and on the secondary site servers.
