Symptoms

When you try to install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server on a domain, you receive the following error message:

Exception occurred during Microsoft.CRM.Tools.Admin.OrganizationCreator: Action Microsoft.crm.tools.Admin.provisionBusinessAction Failed

Additionally, the following error message is logged in the Setup log:

Error | Installer complete: OrganizationCreator - Error encountered
Error | Exception occured during Microsoft.CRM.Tools.Admin.OrganizationCreator : Action Microsoft.crm.tools.Admin.provisionBusinessAction Failed.
Inner exception:
The domain logon for this user is invalid: (Dom.ain\<username>).
Select another domain logon and try again.

Then, you try to install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server by updating the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server setup files. To do this, you use one of the following methods:

  • Select Get updates for Microsoft Dynamics CRM (recommended) during Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server installation.

  • Follow the directions in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article:

When you finish installing Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server by updating the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server setup files, you cannot complete the following tasks:

  • Create new organizations in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server

  • Add users to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server

Cause

You receive an error message when you try to install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server on a domain because the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server setup blocks installation when the domain's NetBIOS domain name contains a period (.).

Additionally, you cannot create new organizations in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server or add users to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server when you install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server by updating the setup files.

Resolution

To install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server on a domain whose NetBIOS domain name contains a period (.), follow these steps:

  1. To have us create the appropriate registry key for you, go to the "Fix it for me" section. If you prefer to create the appropriate registry key yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

    Fix it for me

    To create the appropriate registry key automatically, click the Fix it button or link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.




    Notes

    • This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.

    • If you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD and then run it on the computer that has the problem.


    Then, go to the "Did this fix the problem?" section.



    Let me fix it myselfCreate the appropriate registry key on the server on which you want to install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open Registry Editor.

    2. Browse to the following location: HKLM\Software\Microsoft

    3. Create the MSCRM registry key if it does not already exist.

    4. Browse to the following location: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSCRM

    5. Create a new DWORD type registry value, and then name the registry value VerifyDomainName.

    6. Set the datavalue of the VerifyDomainName value to 1

  2. During the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server setup, complete one of the following tasks:

    • Select Get updates for Microsoft Dynamics CRM (recommended).

    • If the server does not have an Internet connection, follow the directions in the following KB article to obtain and install the updates:

As soon as the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server setup is complete, install Update Rollup 4 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011, and then restart the server.
After you restart the server, you will be able to create new organizations in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server and add users to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server.
