SUMMARY

Cumulative update packages for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 contain hotfixes for the SharePoint Server 2010 issues that were fixed since the release of SharePoint Server 2010.

Note This is build 14.0.6112.5000 of the cumulative update package.

We recommend that you test hotfixes before you deploy them in a production environment. Because the builds are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and security updates that were included with the previous SharePoint Server 2010 update package releases.

Important notes about the cumulative update package

The Microsoft Office 2010 hotfixes are now multilingual. This cumulative update package contains updates for all languages.
This cumulative update package includes all the server component packages. Additionally, this cumulative update package updates only those components that are installed on the system.

Known issue 1

After you install this hotfix, you must restart the User Profile Synchronization Service for profile synchronization to function correctly.

Workaround

To work around this issue, follow these steps:

Visit Central Administration.
Click Manage Services on the System Settings section.
Find User Profile Synchronization Service in the list of services and then click Stop if its status is Started. Click Start and provide the credentials to start the User Profile Synchronization Service as soon as its status is Stopped.

Known issue 2

After you install the cumulative update package, you must run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard (PSConfigUI.exe). This upgrade and updates the farm to the latest version. This step is required to make sure that you have full SharePoint functionality. The farm will run if you do not run PSConfigUI.exe. However, the farm will have reduced capacity. For example, the search function will be unable to index content.

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

You add a link which starts with "mms://" into the Summary Links Web part in SharePoint Server 2010. Then, you save the Web part. In this situation, the Web part does not display the link you added. When you edit the Web part again, the Web part displays an error message. Additionally, the following Unified Logging Service (ULS) log is logged:

Error while executing web part: System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: value

Consider the following scenario:
- You apply multiple language packs on a SharePoint Server 2010 server.
- You add a Content By Query Web Part into a non-English site collection webpage.
- You add a source that is from an English site collection for the Content By Query Web Part.
- You save the webpage and view the webpage.
In this scenario, the language in the ribbon is displayed as English instead of the non-English language.
Assume that you try to use the variations fix up tools to scan the variations relationships list in SharePoint Server 2010. When the target page’s parent web page is not the peer web page of the source page’s parent web page, the variation fix up tools cannot generate a variations report.
Assume that you save a value in a taxonomy field. This label does not have a label in a Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 site collection. When you perform a crawl on the site collection, you receive the following error message:

The SharePoint item being crawled returned an error when requesting data from the web service.

SharePoint Server 2010 hotfixes that are included in the cumulative update package for SharePoint Server 2010
