The Invalid_AD_Phone_Numbers.txt file is not generated in the Address Book files in a Lync Server 2010 environment

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You enable the Enterprise Voice feature in a Microsoft Lync Server 2010 environment.
  • You create a new text file that is named Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt in the folder that contains the Address Book Server files. You configure appropriate rules in the file.
    Note
    • In Lync Server 2010 Standard Edition, the default location path for the Address Book Server files is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2010\Web Components\Address Book Files\Files.
    • In Lync Server 2010 Enterprise Edition, the Address Book Server files are located in the shared folder in the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path that is configured during the deployment of the Lync Server 2010 environment.
  • You define one or more Lync 2010 users who have a telephone number. The telephone number cannot be normalized by the rules in the Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt file.
In this scenario, the Invalid_AD_Phone_Numbers.txt file is not generated.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Invalid_AD_Phone_Numbers.txt file is only generated when there is more than one Grouping ID. By default, one Grouping ID exists on a Lync Server 2010 server.

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, follow these steps to create a Lync 2010 user account that has a nonzero Grouping ID:
  1. Enable a Lync Server 2010 user account in Lync Server 2010 Control Panel.
  2. Right-click the user account in the Active Directory User and Computer panel, click Properties, and then click the Attribute Editor tab.
    Note Select the Advanced Features option under the View menu to enable the Attribute Editor tab.
  3. Double-click the msRTCSIP-GroupingID attribute to edit the properties, and then input a nonzero value.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Update the Address Book by running the following command in Lync Server Management Shell:
    Update-CsAddressBook
