You use Windows Media Player 12 on a computer that is running Windows 7 to play some AVI files that were created by a third-party application or by third-party hardware. The AVI files include an AVI super index chunk. In this scenario, Windows Media Player 12 does not play the files correctly. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following: An internal error has occurred. CAUSEThis issue occurs because Microsoft Media Foundation does not parse an index chunk in the AVI files correctly. RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article.
