Text that is typed by using the right-to-left reading order is displayed by using the left-to-right reading order in the sent message pane in Lync 2010

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

You open a Microsoft Lync 2010 conversation window.
You right-click the message input box and select Right-to-Left Reading Order.
You type a message in the message input box, and then send the message to a recipient.

In this scenario, the text in the message is displayed in the sent message pane by using the left-to-right reading order.

This issue occurs because embedded Windows Internet Explorer does not recognize the direction HTML style attribute.

Note Lync 2010 uses the direction HTML style attribute to set the reading order of text.

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

If there is no Right-to-Left Reading Order option when you right-click the message input box, follow these steps to enable the option:

Open Registry Editor. To do this, click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Communicator
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type InputRTL, and then press Enter.
On the Edit menu, click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor.
