Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Branch Distribution Point (BDP) in a Microsoft System Center 2007 Configuration Manager site that uses slow network links.

  • You try to distribute a large package (for example, a 5.7 gigabyte package) or several packages.

In this scenario, the package replication job is automatically canceled on the BDP after seven days. Additionally, the job remains in the System Center Configuration Manager Package replication queue. When this occurs, you do not receive a notification that the replication job is not running.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following hotfix rollup package on the affected System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) primary site server. The installation wizard for the package creates another package for clients. To deploy the package to all clients after you run the package on the primary site server, you have to create an advertisement.

Note The hotfix package can be installed on a System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 site server that is running an x86-based or x64-based version of Windows.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

322756 How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

  1. Open Registry Editor. To do this, click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.

  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CCM\BDPAgent

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32 bit) Value.

  4. Type PackageTimeout, and then press Enter.

  5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.

  6. In the Value data box, type the customized package download time-out value, and then click OK.

  7. Exit Registry Editor.

Note If the set value is not within the range of 7 days (7*24*60*60) to 90 days (90*24*60*60), Windows uses a default of 7 days (7*24*60*60).
