Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
-
You install the Hyper-V role on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2.
-
You install Red Hat Linux on a virtual machine.
-
You connect to the virtual machine from a computer that is connected to a non-US keyboard.
In this scenario, the AltGr key does not work in the Red Hat Linux virtual machine.
Resolution
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites
To apply this hotfix, you must be running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Additionally, you must have the Hyper-V role installed.

After apply this hotfix, you must create a registry key.

Fix it for me
To create the registry key automatically, click the Fix it button or link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

Let me fix it myself
To create the registry key , follow these steps:

Click Start, type regedit in the Search programs and files box, and then press Enter.
If you are prompted for an administrator password, type the password. If you are prompted for confirmation, provide confirmation. -
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Virtualization\Worker

On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

Type KeyboardWorkaroundEnabled, and then press Enter.

Right-click KeyboardWorkaroundEnabled, and then click Modify.

In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

Exit Registry Editor.
