Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a partitioned table that has many partitions (for example, the table has more than 1000 partitions) in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 or in Microsoft SQL Server 2012.
  • The table uses the data compression feature.
  • You enable the following options, and then you use SQL Server 2008 R2 or SQL Server 2012 to generate scripts for the table:
    • Script Partition Schemes
    • Script Data Compression Options
In this scenario, SQL Server takes a long time to generate scripts for the table.

Cause

This issue occurs because a query is run to obtain the data compression value for each partition in the table.
