Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You use client-side caching (CSC) on a computer that is running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
  • You make some changes to documents in the CSC folder when the folder is offline.
  • You set the folder to online mode to synchronize the changes with the server.
In this scenario, many unnecessary IOCTL requests are sent instead of FSCTL packages on the Server Message Block (SMB) connection. Additionally, many SMB2:C IOCTL (0xb) packages together with CtlCode: 0x000901AF messages are detected in the network connection.  For example, the following message is detected:

CtlCode: 0x000901AF - Unknown File System Control Code


Note This issue decreases the performance of file server and SMB2 responses. For example, SMB2:C QUERY DIRECTORY (0xe) requests might be delayed by up to 40 seconds.

Resolution

Hotfix information
