Note Error code "8004010e" corresponds to a MAPI_E_NOT_ENOUGH_RESOURCES error.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Active Directory contains some mail-enabled objects that have lingering objects or lingering links in certain attributes. Therefore, the Exchange OAB generation fails with the MAPI_E_NOT_ENOUGH_RESOURCES error.

Note A Lingering link is a linked attribute that contains the Distinguished Names (DN) of an object that no longer exists in the Active Directory.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
2746164 Description of Update Rollup 6 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2

Status

More information

After you install Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2), an event message is logged when you try to generate an OAB. This event helps determine the Active Directory mail-enabled objects that have lingering objects or lingering links. This event resembles the following:

Event ID: 9414

One or more properties cannot be read from Active Directory for recipient '/o=Contoso/ou=Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=User 1' in offline address book for '\Offline Address List - Contoso'.
