Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has a Hosted Network-capable wireless adapter installed.

  • You enable the Wireless Hosted Network feature to use Virtual Wi-Fi on this computer.

  • You create a software-based wireless access point (AP) that uses a designated virtual wireless adapter.

  • You connect a client computer to the software-based wireless AP.

  • You stop and start the software-based wireless AP repeatedly.

In this scenario, the Internet Connection Sharing service freezes. Additionally, the client computer cannot use Virtual Wi-Fi until you restart the system.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a deadlock in Ipnathlp.dll.
