Symptoms
When you have certain Windows 8 or Windows RT-based devices, there are inconsistent options in the Power Options settings.
Scenario 1
Assume that you are running a Windows 8 tablet that has an Intel Atom processor, and you want choose what the power button does. However, the provided options in Advanced settings are different from the options in System Settings.
Note There are two locations in Power Options where you can change settings related to the power button. To view these options, follow these steps:-
Open Power Options in Control Panel, and then tap Choose what the power buttons do. Under On battery or Plugged in, the When I press the power button drop-down list has the following options:

Do nothing

Sleep
-
Shut down
-
-
Open Power Options in Control Panel, tap Change plan settings next to the current selected power plan, tap Change advanced power settings, expand Power buttons and lid, expand Power button action, the On battery or Plugged in drop-down list has the following options:

Do nothing
-
Hibernate
-
Shut down
-
Scenario 2
Assume that you have a Windows RT-based device, and you want choose what the power button does. In this situation, the Sleep option is missing under provided options in Advanced settings.
Resolution
