Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services (SSAS 2012) or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services (SSAS 2008 R2) database that has multiple data sources.
  • You have a Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) query that contains some filters.
  • You run the MDX query against a Relational OLAP (ROLAP) partition. The ROLAP partition and the dimension that is referenced by the filters come from different data sources
In this scenario, an incorrect result may be returned or an access violation may occur.

Cause

This issue occurs because a secondary data source prevents SSAS from pushing the filters into the SQL query. Because this is unexpected behavior, SSAS generates inconsistent internal data structures that lead to an access violation or incorrect results.

Resolution

Cumulative update information

The issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server.
