Symptoms

When you have a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1), the Svchost.exe process that hosts the RasMan service crashes every few hours or days. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
Faulting application name: svchost.exe_RasMan, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bc3c1
Faulting module name: vpnike.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17514, time stamp: 0x4ce7c9f6
Exception code: 0xc0000005

Note After you restart the computer, this issue occurs every two or three days.

Resolution

Hotfix information

To resolve this issue, you have to install the update that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article:
2487292 The maximum number of WAN Miniport (IKEv2) ports changes from 128 to two after you install Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
And then, install the hotfix that is described in this article.

Note After you install Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, the maximum number of IKEv2 ports is reset to two.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
